N is for "Not Yet" 04/16/2011
"Mommy are we there?" "Not yet." "Excuse me Mr. Boss Man, is it time for that promotion?" "Not yet." If no matter what you ask these days, it seems like "not yet" is the answer, read on. "Not yet" has been my life story for..well, probably my whole life. Once I became an adult and started working, "not yet" was often the answer when it came to living my dream - or what I thought was my dream at the time. I am finally starting to live my dream after years and years of "not yet". It hasn't been easy getting here. But now I realize all those "not yet" answers happened for a reason. Those things I wanted then are not at all what I would want now. No matter how much you 'know' you want something, if the answer you're getting is a "not yet" there is good reason, even if you don't know it yet. Have I lived out all my dreams? "Not yet." Is my career exactly where I want it? "Not yet." While I do enjoy what I do, there are still some related things I want to pursue, such as landing a job with a specific company, expanding upon my network of sites, and so much more. But instead of dwelling on the "not yet," I am enjoying the here and now, in realization that there is a reason and a season for everything. Enjoy what you have while you have it and make the best of it. The "not yet" you are hoping for could happen any second or another "not yet" that's even more awesome could be right around the corner. Listen to Corrine Bailey Rae. "You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow." If it hasn't happened yet, there's a reason. Relax and let it flow. Lyn is the founder of Write W.A.V.E. The days of waiting for a promotion in my job have long gone, and IT isn't what it used to be, so these days it's more of a case of holding on to a job until retirement, or my freelance writing suddenly taking off. 04/17/2011 11:11
Love this! Thanks Lyn. It can be hard to patient with myself and with the process and what it takes to make a dream happen. However it does help to remember there are no "Nos" just "Not Yets"! 04/18/2011 18:17
'Not yet' is a great way to look at it! Not meeting a goal or milestone in your life at a specific time doesn't mean you won't someday. Kurtis Tompkins 04/18/2011 20:40
Outstanding article Lyn. Very encouraging! 04/19/2011 18:23
I've often found that if the answer to something is "not yet" that I need to look around and figure out what I might be missing. Because I really do believe things happen when they're supposed to and that there is always something to be learned. 04/27/2011 13:59
Dropping in from A-Z. I think you're so right about this, patience is hard for me. Keep it up! Leave a Reply |
