After waking up one evening, Dakota has his life completely shattered by a disturbing event which leads him to discover the town of Eden engulfed in chaos. A deadly virus has rocked the world and brought it to its knees; and the dead to their feet. Can Dakota, his brother and a group of young people survive outside the bosom of their homes? Or will their diversity, lust, animosity and deceit consume them from within...
Immerse yourself in the apocalyptic disease that is Grave Chances and become infected by the violence and destruction of this new society.
The debut novel from U.K. author A.J. Cupples, “Grave Chances: The End Origins” is definitely a post-apocalyptic page-turner. It is both terrifying and incredible how Dakota Yazzie and his brother Tyler are able to survive as an apocalyptic horde of undead bring the United States of America to its knees. The other young survivors in the story all come from very different backgrounds, but learn to work together in a quickly crumbling world.
The main theme that is clear throughout the whole book is the importance of keeping your own humanity while inhumane things are going on all around. There are times in the book where it would seem much easier to give up, but Dakota, Tyler, and their fellow survivors never do. There are some very interesting characters that the young survivors meet throughout the story. Some appear helpful, but despite their appearances of religious morality, are actually not what they appear to be. Others are barely surviving.
This story is only the first part of a series, so many questions have been left as yet unanswered. But it’s off to a great start. Grave Origins has a colorful cast of characters, many of whom we’ve only been barely introduced to in this first book. I look forward to finding out what happens to the Yazzie brothers and friends in the sequels to this solid debut novel.
“Grave Origins: The End Origins” is available from Amazon in both eBook and paperback.
