Having multiple copies of Sarcomancy on the board could be an issue, as you could end up taking two, three, or four damage a turn if you don’t control a Zombie. But chances are, simply getting a 2/2 Zombie for 1 mana is pretty good. Granted you have Diregraf Ghoul from Innistrad, which is a 2/2 for a single black mana that comes into play tapped with no other downsides. But back when this card was released, it was super good. It’s still a good Commander card and in a dedicated Zombie Constructed deck in Legacy, it could still work well as a play-set. Legacy Zombies just don’t top tournaments anymore, however.
