Weathered Wayfarer has a similar ability for 1 White and a tap that can search out any land as long as there is a player that controls more lands than you. But in many cases, in a typical EDH / Commander game, you'll be getting 3 cards with the Plains land type for only 1W to your hand. A card that has an enter the battlefield that says draw a card is usually pretty good. The fact that this effect can give you two or three cards makes Oreskos Explorer a really nice budget alternative to the aforementioned Wayfarer or Land Tax in EDH.
Any deck that can abuse enter the battlefield effects, such as those led by Commanders such as Brago, King Eternal or Roon of the Hidden Realm can very much enjoy abusing this card's ability. Technically, this is a draw card, and getting lands into your hand and out of your deck is crucial when you have 99 cards to draw through.
This is a sweet little uncommon that's at home in a fair number of EDH decks. You would think that he’d see the most play in mono-White decks. Sure, he sees a lot of play in Mono-White Cat Tribal decks such as Kemba, Kha Regent, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, and Raksha Golden Cub. But besides obvious play in Green/White Arahbo, Roar of the World Cat Tribal decks, he sees the most play in White/Black Daxos the Returned decks. Go figure.
Of course, Oreskos Explorer can get any land with the Plains subtype. He’s pretty cool.
