MTGStocks ran down these cards pretty well in their latest Weekly Winners #35, so I don’t have to Reiterate everything they said, since I agree with all of it. I also agree with them that Dromoka’s Command and Siege Rhino are cheap pickups, although I’m not sure I’d be picking up Stoke the Flames (unless you need them), Elspeth, Sun’s Champion (unless it’s the duel deck or set foil), or Languish (may fall a bit more before demand at rotation). I’m liking MM2015 Remands and Dig Through Time, even if the latter is likely to get banned in Legacy for simply being too good - it has some more time in Standard.
There was one crazy spike - Sandals of Abdallah from Arabian Nights nearly tripled in price last night. I’ve mentioned this card before as one that has a pretty neat effect, and although it’s not on the Reserved List, it’s probably not anything that Wizards would reprint at this point. I think this is just following Arabian Nights cards in general - people just want to collect them. It had a spike a couple weeks ago before crashing back down to earth. It may be a pattern that we see with cards from this set for awhile, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.
Another foil card I really like from this set is Master Transmuter. While she was reprinted in Archenemy, there isn’t another foil version, and last I checked, artifacts are pretty good. The Transmuter is about an $8 card in non-foil and only $13-14 in foil? For a creature that has the ability for a single Blue mana and a tap to return an artifact to your hand and put any other artifact card from your hand into play, that’s way too cheap, especially with the fact that cheap Thopters are now running around Commander. I’ll trade a Thopter and a Blue mana for Darksteel Forge, Blightsteel Colossus, or Mycosynth Lattice thank you very much. I’d be picking her foils up as there’s real demand for her and who knows when she’ll be the next spec target.
Spell Snare foils from Modern Masters also doubled in price over the week. This isn’t surprising, as now they’re just caught up to their Dissension foil counterparts. It’s an awesome card in Modern, and while there’s going to be a bit of sell-off, the time to jump in on these for profit is probably well past.
Next week, we’ll be seeing a lot of preorder prices for Battle for Zendikar - that should be interesting!
