4 Harbinger of the Tides
4 Shorecrasher Elemental
3 Silumgar Sorcerer
3 Thassa, God of the Sea
4 Master of Waves
4 Icefall Regent
4 Ensoul Artifact
4 Darksteel Citadel
2 Encase in Ice
2 Stratus Dancer
3 Profaner of the Dead
There are 4 Ornithopter in the deck to match 4 Ensoul Artifacts. We’ve seen how devastating turn 1 Ornithopter into turn 2 Ensoul Artifact and a 5/5 flyer hitting you in the face can be. This deck tries to jump on that as quickly as possible. There are 4 Darksteel Citadel to also get this combination online, except that you get a 5/5 indestructible man-land on the ground. Both are extremely devastating. Taking this page out of UR Ensoul Artifact’s book gives this deck the early game it needs to set up for a major punch later.
Also, Shorecrasher Elemental has an ability for 1 colorless mana to get +1/-1 until end of turn. A lot of times you can attack with this as a 4/2 or 5/1, and a 5/3 or 6/2 if you happen to have it Megamorphed. It’s a really strong creature in this deck and it’s good to see this Khans mythic rare finally getting its time in the sun - or waves - or whatever.
We already mentioned the 4 copies of Ensoul Artifact. There are 2 copies of Dissolve in the deck, the 1UU counterspell that lets you Scry for 1. Also, there are 4 copies of Anticipate, which help you to dig for what you need, whether that’s an Ensoul Artifact, Thassa, Master of Waves, or whatever else you don’t have at that moment.
The mana base is very simple: 4 Darksteel Citadel for purposes of Ensoul Artifact and 20 islands.
Two Stratus Dancers can come in as Morph creatures, and as you may well play Shorecrasher Elemental face-down for 3 at times, your opponent could easily mistake them for that. When the Dancer flips, you get to counter a target instant or sorcery spell. These are pretty good against burn, and Megamorph makes them 3/2 flyers.
Claustrophobia has been a solid sideboard card in Mono-Blue Devotion for quite awhile, letting us tap down any creature we want and keep it tapped. This is a great way to deal with Tasigur and Siege Rhino, although Encase in Ice can hit the Rhino as well. This Enchantment also counts as 2 Blue Devotion for us. It’s a bit more versatile than Encase in Ice in some matchups.
The last sideboard card is Profaner of the Dead. This 3/3 Naga Wizard for 3U has a pretty sweet Exploit ability that bounces all opponent’s creatures with toughness less than the Exploited creature. This can be a brutal tempo swing for Mono-Red and Green/Black Elves if it just Exploits itself.
All, in all, this sideboard pretty much covers the majority of the Standard metagame.
