When Being Painfully Kicked is a Welcome Feeling

This is an ultrasound picture of Mekai using that arm muscle several weeks ago.

Last night was another long one. Contractions kept me up through the night again. However, at some point I did get them to stop and got strong kicks from Mekai instead.

I love the second reason for still being up when 4 a.m. rolled around. 💜 That is so much better than the first. This kid is a strong one. Sometimes, his kicks actually hurt more than some of the contractions. 💪😊👶😂

That strength will help him if he comes early, though. So, he can keep on working out in there all he wants to. He's a tough one, dealing with my body constantly trying to push him out before he's ready. It will be awesome to see that strong outlook when he does make his entrance.

Hopefully, my body lets him cook longer. It's not under my control. But I'm fighting my body as best I can to keep him in there as long as possible. 😊

I don't think anyone can ever fully appreciate what you are going through right now. I'd like to say I do, but no one can truly understand the full extent of the struggle to keep him inside. Every day we can let him cook is a blessing but he will come when he is intended to come. He will be fine :) Love you <3

Mekai's Branches

Mekai's Branches chronicles the life of Mekai Indigo Dustin, from pregnancy, to birth, and beyond.

Mekai was due on July 21, 2019, born July 14. His pregnancy was extremely high risk, involving premature labor, incompetent cervix (IC), emergency (emergent) cerclage surgery and other interventions, and had the risk of ending in premature delivery with a preemie baby. However, we fought hard for him stay inside until full term and were successful. Follow along for updates on all of Mekai's branches of life.

Mekai's name means tree of life, giver of life, and healer. We blended some traditional spellings and meanings of this name that is seen in many cultures to come up with the final meaning. He is a fighter, bursting through multiple forms of birth control, as well as staying strong and healthy, despite Lyn's body trying to fight him being there the whole pregnancy. He really wanted to be born, thus his name representing the very definition of life itself.
