No! My Purple Hair Dye Turned Out Pink!

PictureImage © Lyn Lomasi; All Rights Reserved - (me, not so thrilled about the pink look)
I like pretty much all colors of the rainbow. Though, purple and green are my favorites. Those of you who know me know that I have been dyeing my hair purple for a few years now, give or take. I use the same brand pretty much every time and the results are always exactly as I would like them to be – every time except this time.

Silly me chose to use the more burgundy shade of purple this time to lighten it up just a tad because my purple sections were starting to look almost black or dark brown in some spots. Well, it didn't exactly turn out lighter purple – or even burgundy. It is perhaps a lighter burgundy, but more pinkish.

This is definitely an occasion for the Instant No Button.

Eek! It could have ended up any color but this. Pink is just about my least favorite color. So, of course it had to end up this way. It actually doesn't look that bad, if you like pink – and if I had any pink to wear with it. However, my wardrobe is mostly purple and no trace of pink whatsoever.

I'm just going to leave it this way to give my hair a rest before restoring the purple. But why pink of all colors? Why?

Go ahead and laugh, because I am.

Why Snap-On-Smile Is So Popular In Cosmetic Dentistry

Are you looking to improve your smile? Do you want straighter teeth that look better in photos? Do you want to improve your smile but don't want to go through wearing braces? Many people are surprised to learn there are some other, simpler methods out there. One of them is the snap-on smile.

Snap-On-Smile is an excellent option to create a wonderful smile for most anyone. For those that have cosmetic problems with their teeth, it provides them with a straight, white brilliant smile. What is more, it does so at a fraction of the cost of most other procedures. Here are several reasons why Snap-On-Smile is such a popular option:

It is pain free

When it comes to getting veneers, you can figure on getting shots for pain and at least a few minutes of the drill. The teeth have to be prepared to take the bonding and so forth. With Snap-On-Smile there are no shots, no drills and no pain. The piece fits over the top of your existing teeth like a glove. Not having to worry about pain is a major selling factor when it comes to the snap on smile. But there are other reasons why I considered this option over the other options that my dentist told me about.

It is quick and easy

When you visit your dentist, she will take x-rays and create a model of your existing mouth, unless you have very recent x-rays on file already. This will then be used to build your Snap-On-Smile in about two or three weeks. Once it is finished, you will come in and have some in-office adjustments. You should be able to wear the piece home that same day. Few procedures are as quick as Snap-On-Smile.

It costs far less than regular veneers

Porcelain veneers are extremely expensive for most folks and can run thousands of dollars. Snap-On-Smile can be had at a fraction of the price. If your teeth are good candidates for a Snap-On-Smile, then it is certainly an easy choice to go with that. Everyone wants to save money, after all. Price for value- this option makes sense for many people.

It works to solve many types of problems

Another reason this choice is so popular is that it serves differnet types of dental problems. Snap-On-Smile actually works well for far more than just stained teeth. If you are missing some teeth and want to fill in that smile, you would certainly do well to have Snap-On-Smile. The overlay leaves you with a wonderful smile that is straight and complete. It also works for folks with chipped teeth or that are simply tired of their existing flapper or bridge.

Snap-On-Smile has become popular for a number of reasons and these are only a few. When you have a smile that is less than desirable, you will go to great lengths to improve it. This is a great solution that is available to everyone and that is very cost effective for the average person. If you are unhappy with your current smile, you might want to give it a try!

Lisa writes about good dental hygeine and has tried many of these methods to impove her own smile. If you're wondering if you're a good candidate for snap on smile, then visit mybiodental.com for more information.

Dangers of Keratin Treatments

by Lyn Lomasi, Write W.A.V.E. Media Staff
PictureSee how shiny my hair is without the use of keratin?
It saddens me to see so many of my  friends and acquaintances being misled by various beauty procedures and “miracle” tips daily. Keratin is one of those I am seeing more often recently. Is it really what you think it is?

Keratin is a natural protein that already exists in your hair. So why is it dangerous to get keratin hair treatments? Shouldn’t it be safe if it naturally exists in your hair? Yes and no. What goes into the solution and process of keratin hair treatments is not the same thing as what naturally occurs in your hair. Keratin itself is not what's dangerous. It's the products containing keratin that can be harmful.

Formaldehyde, a substance widely known to be dangerous, is often used in these keratin treatments. Some beauty salons mix their own products, making it easier to have more formaldehyde used than is necessary. The more that is used, the more dangerous it is to your health. Formaldehyde is not the only dangerous ingredient or chemical contained in these treatments and what's in them can vary from salon to salon and from product to product.

We are told that beauty can be painful. To that, I ask why? It doesn't have to be. These keratin treatments can cause burning eyes, throat pain, and more. In fact, formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. That's right, it can cause cancer. Is shiny hair really worth the risk of cancer? Really? As if that wasn't enough of a shock, were you also aware that hair treatments are unregulated? This means that almost anything could potentially be in them.

So, how do you get silky, soft hair without using keratin treatments?

Simple. Avoid chemicals and costly salon treatments and opt for my homemade, all-natural treatments instead.

Get Soft Feet Quick and Naturally

Are your feet scaly and undesirable? Wish you could slough off some of that old skin without harsh chemicals and over-filing? In our household, we always look to natural solutions when it comes to just about everything. That includes beauty and personal care. It is possible to get silky soft feet quickly with natural remedies. If you follow the regimen exactly, you will likely see results after the very first treatments. By repeating the process continuously, you'll see even better results.

Use a quality natural sugar scrub. When you scrub your feet daily with a natural moisturizing foot scrub, it takes away the dead skin, while hydrating the healthy skin. To get the amount of moisture along with the right amount of scrubbing texture I was looking for, I invented
Intent.sive Moisture Cherry Almond Shower Scrub. It's custom made on order for freshness and customization availability. Scrubbing away dead skin cells like this is a necessary process in keeping your feet looking their best. I find the softest feet happen when using this in combination with the following methods to copmplete the foot care regimen.
Soak your feet in a special oatmeal and oil bath. After the moisturizing foot scrub, you can add extra moisture by soaking your feet in an oatmeal bath that also contains a special oil blend. Oatmeal baths help relieve itching and add extra moisture to the skin. They are like a spa for your feet. The oils add extra moisture  and with the right blend, intensive healing.

To create an oatmeal bath, all you need is an old sock or the cut-off foot of an old pair of hosiery. Fill your sock or hosiery about halfway with dry oats. Quick oats don't work as well as the original. Tie the sock or hosiery to the end of your faucet. Be sure that it's positioned in a way that allows the water to run over it. Run the water over it with the bathtub plugged until there is enough water to cover the feet and ankles. Untie the sock and swish it in the water. Squeeze it out into the water. Repeat until the mixture comes out clear and the water is filmy.

Once you've created the oatmeal bath, pour in about 2 ounces of Intent.sive Etheric Golden Healing, Pain, Massage, & Altar Oil. Swish it around the tub. Rub the oatmeal and oil laced water into the feet. Then, soak them in it for about 15 minutes. Pat dry. Your feet will feel very soft after this. But one more step will seal the deal in your soft feet regimen.

Hydrate the feet while you sleep. The last step will require a pair of socks and Intent.sive Etheric Golden Healing, Pain, Massage, & Altar Oil. Massage the oil into your feet, leaving an oily layer on top afterward. Place your socks on right over this oily mixture and leave them on all night. When you remove them in the morning, you'll have silky soft skin on your feet. If necessary, you can also moisturize with this blend in the morning, omitting the sock portion.

Repeat this process regularly, at least three times per week (more if necessary), even after you've achieved the silky soft feet you desire. This will help you maintain healthy, smooth feet so they never go dry again.

You're welcome.

Get Shiny Hair With Homemade Hair Masks

7/16/2012

by Lyn Lomasi, Write W.A.V.E. Media Staff
Picture
Is your hair looking dull and lifeless? You need a hair makeover. Revitalize your hair and make it shine with natural homemade hair masks. Chemical solutions simply coat and mask the underlying problem without actually solving it. Our family believes in giving hair the nutrition nature intended by making our own natural hair masks. Using these recipes, your hair can shine from root to tip, no matter the length or hair type.

Naturally deep condition your hair twice monthly. This natural deep-conditioning mask helps to replenish your hair and keep it shiny and silky. Mix together one egg yolk, two tablespoons of honey, and two tablespoons of olive oil. Apply the mixture to your entire head of hair from root to tip. If you have longer hair, you may need to double or triple the recipe. Once the hair is covered, place a shower cap over the hair and leave the mixture on for up to an hour. Rinse in cold water only. Warm water cooks the egg yolk and leaves a mess to clean out of your hair. For the best results, repeat the process twice every month.

Give your hair a fruit smoothie mask twice weekly. In a blender, combine one banana half, an equal amount of cantaloupe, 2 tablespoons of avocado, 1 tablespoon of wheat germ oil, and 1 tablespoon of yogurt. Blend until smooth. Saturate hair with the smoothie mask. You may need to comb it into your hair to be sure the hair is evenly coated all the way through. Place a shower cap over the hair and leave the smoothie mask on for about 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water. Your hair will enjoy the moisture and feel silky and shiny. If your hair is extra dry or damaged, you may add a Vitamin E capsule to the smoothie mix and also rinse with a blend of water and a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. This treatment can be done in between the deep conditioning hair mask above.

A daily wheat and milk conditioner helps your shine. To keep your hair shiny in between other treatments, use this daily conditioning mask. Blend together one egg, 2 ½ tablespoons of powdered milk, and a tablespoon of wheat germ oil. If you cannot find wheat germ oil, substitute it with ½ tablespoon of dried wheat germ and ½ tablespoon of olive oil. Mix the ingredients in a blender until smooth. Apply the mask evenly from root to tip. Put on a shower cap and leave the shine-inducing mixture on for an hour. Rinse with cold water. Shampoo hair with one egg white and rinse again with cold water.

5 Steps to Longer, Healthier Hair

Tired of trying endlessly to get your to grow and be strong? It can be a difficult and grueling task with sometimes less-than-positive results. Because I believe in natural beauty, I am always finding things from nature to keep my hair long and healthy. The regimen below has kept my hair healthy, happy, and helped it grow too. Perhaps it will work for you as well.

Thoroughly cleanse with vinegar and baking soda. First, make a paste with equal parts baking soda and water. Massage it through the hair and scalp and rinse thoroughly with a 50/50 solution of lukewarm water and vinegar. Some may need to do this twice to remove dirt and buildup. The baking soda acts as a scrubbing and softening agent. The vinegar helps remove buildup and provides a clean rinse. Also, when the two blend together, it creates a bubbling action that helps remove residue. Do this about once per month to remove buildup.

Follow up with an egg wash. Get one egg and a small container. Separate the egg white from the yolk. You can save the yolk for food or other purposes, so as not to waste it. If you have thick or long hair, you may need to use more than one egg. The egg white is your wash. You can add a drop of pure almond oil to the egg white for extra shine. Saturate the hair with the egg white wash. Leave it on for about a minute. Then, rinse thoroughly.

Mask your hair with a homemade minty avocado strawberry conditioner. This step gives the hair some deep conditioning and also helps with shine. Saturate the hair completely with this conditioner, as you would any hair mask. Apply a shower cap to the head to hold in the moisture. Leave it on for 30 minutes to an hour. Rinse thoroughly. You will likely notice shine and manageability right away. Do this regularly for the best results.

Keep up the egg wash and avocado conditioner mask. In order to maintain this healthy look, be sure to repeat the egg wash and avocado mask regularly. I recommend doing this 3-4 times per week. It should replace your normal shampoo and conditioning routine. You will probably notice that over time, the hair starts to look healthier and healthier. The protein in the egg whites helps the hair shine and also adds strength and helps prevent breakage. The avocado mask helps moisturize, strengthen, and seal split ends. It also contributes to the shine and manageability.

Avoid heat and chemicals. For the best results when using this regimen, avoid any heated styling products. This means blow dryers, hot combs, curling irons, hot rollers, and any other such devices. While these products may help you achieve certain looks, they also contribute to split ends, breakage, dull hair, and other issues. Chemicals do the same thing, but in a different way. There is no need to use chemicals on the hair. Hair can dry naturally. Plastic and foam curlers can be used instead of heated ones. To make the hair more straight, wet it and comb in homemade minty avocado strawberry detangling conditioner. Leave it on the hair and comb through slowly while blow drying the hair on the cold setting. This may take longer than the heated option. But your hair will thank you for it.

Keep Your Skin Looking Young Without Makeup

6/3/2012

Every day people are bombarded with billboards, TV ads, magazine ads and more about products to make their skin look young. Many times, these products contain makeup. But what if you're like me and prefer to actually have younger-looking skin, not just compound the issue while trying to cover it up. Many types of makeup can actually be damaging to the skin. So while you are using it to cover minor issues, you may actually be making the situation worse. You truly can keep your skin looking young without makeup.

Use Natural Moisturizers Regularly

My favorite natural moisturizers for young-looking skin include tea tree oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, vitamin E oil, and olive oil. I also like to make facial masks and body butters with these ingredients, as well as those from fresh fruits and vegetables. Brown sugar scrubs are great as well. To make a simple deep skin moisturizer, mash one avocado and a banana half together. Stir in 1 teaspoon each of olive oil, almond oil, and vitamin E oil. Smooth over the face. Leave the mask on for thirty minutes and rinse away. This can also be used on other external areas of the body as well.

Keep Your Pores Clean

Clogged pores can make a face look dull and lifeless, which can make a person look older. Cleaning the pores regularly helps avoid this effect. I have a few methods that I like to use. For the first one, all you need is a lemon and a dry cloth. Slice the lemon in half. Cleanse your face with just warm water. Then, take one of the halves and rub the opened side around the face and neck in circular motions. You may also need to use the other half if you face if the lemon gets too oily. Now, take the cloth and wipe any excess from your face.

Another method is to mix half apple cider vinegar and half pure (strained) lemon juice. Dip cotton balls in the mixture and rub it all over your face in circular motions. Let it air dry. Do this once per day. If you've been sweating or participating in a dirty or strenuous activity, you'll want to do it again. You can also use a natural sugar scrub to exfoliate.

Eat The Right Foods

Diet can actually play a major role in the way a person's skin looks. Examine the foods you eat to find out which are good and which are not. Cut back on the foods that worsen skin conditions, such as sweet, salty, and greasy foods that may cause acne and eczema. Add foods that enhance your overall health. Food rich in essential vitamins and minerals are excellent for the skin. Nuts, avocados, bananas, berries, coconut oil, avocado oil, safflower oil, watermelon, and olives are just some of the many foods that I've used to help keep my skin looking healthy and young.

Adapt A Smarter Beauty Regimen

Only use products that work for your skin, not against it. Think about the ingredients. If something is poisonous, why would you want it on your skin? Just because you aren't going to eat it, doesn't mean it's any better to put it on your skin. If you want naturally young-looking skin, use natural ingredients. One note about natural ingredients is that not all natural ingredients are safe either. Always do the research before applying something to your skin. Some things may be poisonous, cause allergies, or have other adverse effects. Once you discover what works for you, stick to it. Maintenance is key to keeping your skin looking young. A monthly subscription box of natural beauty and self-care items may help you keep up your beauty goals.

Enhance Beauty by Avoiding Makeup

I am often complimented on the smoothness of my face and at how youthful I look. Let me tell you that after 4 kids (update: 7 kids now), that feels pretty good. So, what's my secret?

Avoid makeup at all costs.

I know what you're thinking. "What about my blemishes?" "What about my freckles?" "How can I cover up my uneven tones?"

My answer to all those questions is simply "Don't you dare!"

The more makeup and products you use to cover up your so-called beauty flaws is most likely doing you more harm than good. Instead of covering up, work on healing the ones that are a real issue and embracing the ones that are naturally you.

Freckles become beauty marks. Uneven skin tones can be healed by applying things like shea butter and cocoa butter based products, which are very good for the skin overall.

To rid acne, wash the face with water only. Pat dry and apply Intent.sive Etheric Golden Healing, Pain, Massage,  & Altar Oil. The dragon strength version will get it under control the fastest
. Do this twice per day to clear up the acne. This has been my regimen since I first broke out with acne badly. It rid me of the issue and as long as I keep with that regimen daily, it keeps the acne away. This regimen is also good for the skin in general.

Instead of using things that work against your beauty or cover up your natural beauty, go with natural beauty products that maintain and enhance it.

Don't cover it up! Refresh it!

Quick and Easy Hair Fixes for All Hair and Personality Types

1/23/2011

by Lisa Mason, Contributing Writer
Don’t let a bad hair day get you down. There are quick and easy hair fixes for all hair types out there and once you learn the tricks that will work for you, then you can sport beautiful hair day or night, without a lot of fuss and stress.

I’ve been told I have beautiful hair and I appreciate the compliment because those who live with me know that I have had my fair share of bad hair days. I have an interesting hair type that can be both a blessing and a curse. My hair stays where it goes when it is wet.

This means a great blow-out will last until it’s washed again, even after sleeping on it but a sudden downpour of rain means insta-bad-hair-day.

It also means I can add a little lightweight product to my damp hair, poof it a bit and allow it to air dry to experience loose, wavy curls that are an easy no-fuss style.

And it also means that when I want to use a high-heat curling iron and style my tresses, they will likely remain in this curled state until my next hair wash.

While it probably sounds great, there are some real downsides to this type of hair. For one, certain hairstyles are very high maintenance. I’m also highly susceptible to frizz. Still another fault, my hair does not do swimming pools at all!

But over the years, I have learned to love my locks and you can do the same. It all begins with understanding your hair type and your personality type. No matter which you are, it’s important to work with your hair and not against it. Trying to make your hair do something it wasn’t meant to do, especially on a regular basis, is just a recipe for disaster.

Here are some quick tips for hair types:

If your hair falls flat- Curly and straight hair alike can benefit from more boost. Avoid cream or oil based hair care products and at night, pull your hair into a high, loose ponytail at the top of your head. When you take it down in the morning, you will have more body and less flat hair.

If your curls get the frizz- Curls can be a mess when they don’t go where you want them to. Use a flexible-hold styling product and your fingers to help twist your locks in the natural direction of the curls.

If your locks are color treated- Colored or highlighted hair needs special treatment. The sun’s rays, regular washing and chlorinated pools can all wreak havoc on your color-treated hair. Use a special shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair and try to limit sun and pool exposure.

Here are some quick tips for personality types:

The sporty gal- When a regular ponytail just won’t do, consider the flirty but sporty look of a short style. Alternatively, carry hair bands with you often or opt for a more traditional French braid or French pigtails instead of the boring I-just-threw-a-scrunchie-in approach.

The busy new mother- Just because you have a new baby doesn’t mean you have to look a mess. Consider a style that you can sleep on. This allows you to prep the night before and get up in the morning with your hair ready to go.

The glam girl- When you like big hair but don’t have time for the fuss, consider clip-in extensions that add volume and length to your hair. They are now more affordable than ever before and they’re really easy to use.

Casual chic- For you, the haircut is going to be essential. You need something sophisticated, but simple. A wash-and-go style is preferred and will keep your hair healthy and you happy.
