You Know, It's Not Just the President Being Elected!
All of the media attention has been on the Presidential race. But you know what’s more important? The Congressional Elections! That’s right. We have a whole slew of Senators and Representatives up for re-election. If you really want to change America, this is where the battle must be won. Problem is, who is there to choose that’s actually better, right? That’s exactly it. Voter apathy. That’s how crappy people got into office in the first place, you know that? I’m not saying everyone sucks. That’s not true. But it’s time to get the lobbyist-loving, big business spoonfed jerks that do suck. You know, we should have Senators and Representatives that, oh my Lord, actually REPRESENT THEIR CONSTITUENTS!
The President is a figurehead. Yeah, he has some power, especially diplomatically and as the Commander-in-Chief of the US Military. But we really know who has power of the military-industrial complex… I digress.
You know what really got me?
Ben Carson Endorses Donald Trump
Now I don’t agree with a lot of Ben Carson’s views. He’s extremely conservative and traditional. You know what? That’s fine with me. You have every right as a free American citizen to hold your own beliefs. He’s a well-respected brain surgeon who has said a few good things in his books, and heck, even has made sense as a contributor to FOX News (who knew!) In one of his books, I recall he said something about how we need to have a lot fewer lawyers in elected office. We should have more doctors, scientists, educators, and even farmers, ordinary small businesspeople and local community leaders! Cool beans, right?
Then, he goes and endorses Donald Trump and everyone who isn’t voting for Trump loses all respect for him. I know I lost a lot. Yes, it is just politics, and to not endorse the frontrunner is political suicide. But seriously, if there was a Republican in the race that I had any respect for, it was him. You can hate what someone says and thinks, but you should still respect people, right? Well, I will never listen to another word Carson says because of this.
And obviously I’m not the only other one outraged about this. There’s a reason that Ben Carson is trending on Twitter. Heck, even Republicans think it’s really dumb. I know a bunch of Republicans voting for Hillary or Bernie Sanders because they’re so sick of the absolute stupidity that the Republicans represent nowadays. If there isn’t a clean Democrat sweep of most of the Congress seats, I’ll be shocked. Now I have plenty of issues with Hillary, too. I’ll come right out and say that Bernie Sanders is the only person I like in the entire Presidential race.
Fortunately for me, the people I would be voting for are the ones I actually want to keep in office for now. That is, until we get better choices because the others really suck. Some politicians actually do good things, believe it or not.
What we need is what was originally intended, smart, educated folks who come from a variety of professions and backgrounds. We need to do away with political parties. Heck, even George Washington saw it coming back in the late 1700’s! If we ditched the major parties, we’d be in a lot better shape. You could actually have real elections like what happen in local elections. You know, where you actually vote for a platform and the actual person. If we realize that red vs blue is not a real thing and that most of us are more like purple, America will be a lot better off politically.
I will also say that if you are voting for Trump, I do not despise you or want you to jump off a cliff or into the Marianas Trench (that’s the deepest point in the Pacific Ocean by the way). You have every right to vote that way. It’s probably because you don’t know who else to vote for. But it’s time he fired himself and went back to the Apprentice. And Ben Carson and all the other Republicans? Please just go home.
