It hasn't been a fun season for the Portland Sea Dogs in 2015 so far. Through 30 games, the Sea Dogs are in last place at 11-19. But the Red Sox AA affiliate does have a couple of decent performers so far. The most impressive of these is first baseman Jantzen Witte, a former 24th round pick in 2013 out of Texas Christian. He's hit .347/.404/.515 in 27 games.
While it's obviously too early to call Witte the heir apparent to first base in Boston, this is a good sign after performing well at Single-A Greenville last season, with a decent follow-up at Salem. His OPS in 2013 after signing was a mere .492, but that increased to a strong .879 clip in 2014. While it's hard to think that he'll maintain a .918 OPS all season, he's been the Sea Dogs best hitter. He'll be someone to watch in the Sox system going forward.
