It doesn't hurt that Hendricks' fastball was also worth 13.8 runs above average. Even his curveball was slightly above average at 0.8 runs. Speaking of valuable fastballs, Hendricks' teammate Jake Arrieta had the best in 2016 with 32.23 runs above average.
While Hendricks stranded an unusually high number of runners and had some good luck on balls put in play this year, he's definitely a fine pitcher moving forward. While I doubt he'll repeat an ERA in the low 2's next year, he's one of the better pitchers in baseball.
