Future Hall-of-Famer Whitey Ford did not have a good day, surrendering 4 of the 7 Boston runs. Carl "Yaz" Yastrzemski hit a two-run homer in the first inning and the Sox never looked back. Center fielder Gorman Thomas receieved his first start of the season and went 1 for 5 with 2 RBI. Third baseman Joe Foy also had an excellent game, going 2-for-3 with two walks and 3 runs scored.
What really happened: The Red Sox defeated the Yankees in a shutout, 3-0. Billy Rohr pitched a complete game one-hitter and shutout, although he did walk five. Reggie Smith hit a lead-off home run against Ford which would prove to be the deciding run in the ballgame. Joe Foy added a two-run home run in the eighth. It was a great pitcher's duel for the most part.
Let's see if these Red Sox can win this three-game series against the Yankees, something the real Red Sox did not do.
