Cop Forces Lesbian to Leave Women's Restroom & Requests ID

4/27/2016

by Rayne Lockhart, Write W.A.V.E. Media Contributor and Advocate
Watch as this lesbian is harassed by a police officer and forced to leave the women's restroom because she doesn't have identification to prove she is a female and not a boy.

Identification For The Bathroom is Absurd

In what world is it okay to require identification to use the restroom? Officers are supposed to be enforcing laws and as far as I know, it is not required by law to have an I.D. for any restroom in the United States of America.

Looking "Boyish" Does Not Make One a Boy if They Identify as a Woman

This is a free country, as far as I know and people are allowed to dress the way they want. Just because someone looks "boyish" to another, it does not make it okay for that person to make them prove they are a woman. Why is this necessary? Even if you believe people should use the restroom that matches their genitals (I don't), this still makes no sense. This is a WOMAN in a restroom meant for WOMEN.

At least the officer didn't make her show him her genitals. However, requesting an ID is almost as bad. And what the heck was HE doing in there anyway?

Please share to spread the word about this injustice and leave your comments below. We want to hear you thoughts.

Everything is Falling Apart to Come Together

4/24/2016

Sometimes (read, most of the time) life is extremely rough. There are times, like right now, that I feel everything is falling completely apart: my body, everything I touch, or every attempt at anything useful. But then I remember what I always tell people, based on experience. Sometimes everything falls apart before everything can come together.

If my falling apart is this major, then the coming together must be going to be pretty awesome. Lately, everything I attempt to do fails miserably. I'm not medically fit to do anything useful. I'm even stumbling to write this post and relying on autocorrect and spell check to fix my many errors.

Most of the people around me don't understand at all what I'm going through because they can't visibly see my pain, nor can they feel it. To them, if I say I'll do something, they assume I'm capable (I'm not. I'm lying to myself and everyone around me about that). But if I refuse because of how I feel, then I'm being difficult. At this point, anything I do hurts me, due to a medical condition I can no longer control.

People say they understand. But their actions show they don't. Everyone is glad to offer up words about how they feel bad. But then when I really need help, instead I get asked to do more and everyone dumps their problems and worries on top of me, which adds to my already worsening issues, both physical and emotional.

Things are extremely rough for my family right now. But instead of true love and support, people mainly want to offer so-called kind words and then dump on more things for us to stress about directly afterward. We literally cannot handle anymore right now.

It's hard enough just having four of us eight be a part of the LGBTQ community. That in itself is stressful for multiple reasons, such as harassment, fear of harassment, knowing some people don't or won't support us just because of who we are, at times not even truly being able to be our full selves, and so on. Many of the people we know don't even know who we really are.

Having a medical condition and a large family to raise on top of that is very taxing at times. I can do it and so can my beautiful partner. Her and I work extremely well together. Our relationship is not now, nor has it ever been, an issue. It's always everything else. We're actually happy with each other and even when the stress is high, we still work together and love and laugh.

The issue for me is that everything else seems to always fall apart, no matter how good the intentions. But looking back on things and observing others, I remember the inspiration for my name: the rainbow. After every storm comes a rainbow. In part, I may just be my own rainbow for some situations. Perhaps that is the purpose of my name.

From now on, I'm going to focus on that rainbow and let things fall where they may. Everything happens for a reason and if our storm is this bad, our rainbow must be a humongously awesome one.

No matter your storm, I know your rainbow will also come.

Wham, Bam, Thank You, Writing!

Writing web articles is often like the “wham bam, thank you Ma’am” of writing. I mean, think about it. The process itself may not always be quick because like the great Nathaniel Hawthorne said, “easy reading is damn hard writing.” But the part where we involve readers can be like a booty call in many ways. What?! Yeah, I said it.

Let me explain. Recently, a good friend mentioned being insecure about how many people shared her stuff and wondered if it meant they all hated it and were discussing how shitty of a writer she was. I told her that most likely it was a good indication, rather than a bad one but if it wasn’t who cares? Fuck ‘em. You get the page views either way.

And I got to thinking. Yeah, that’s what this career comes down to at times. I mean, sure there are awesomely happy and soul-gratifying moments too. Those times where something you wrote makes a difference in someone else’s life that makes it all worthwhile.  But I’m not talking about those today. Web writers, though the work is quality (at least with good ones), can be in a way “wham bam, thank you ma’am” experts. We screw our readers but we don’t let them screw with us. Huh?

That’s right. We screw them up with the truth in our work (when it’s non-fiction anyway). Then, if they absolutely hate it, they’re still fucked but we still receive the credit for them reading it anyway. I know, some of you may be thinking “Shhh don’t tell them our secret.” But it’s all good. They’ll never be able to get around it.

You see, we have the best system ever. I mean, ever. You wanna know why? Once they’ve already accessed the piece, no matter how much they hate the truth we spoke or how much they might even hate us (yeah, us web journalists seem to attract haters like fruit flies on honey), they can never take back that page view they already gave us.

And if they’re listening to me right now, you know they’re sitting there just hating every second of it. Probably grinding their rotten teeth as their troll fingers try to click quickly away. But it doesn’t work that way. They can’t take back the fact that I said it or that they already witnessed me saying it.

Sorry Honey, but your browser already landed on this page – the helipad at the player’s mansion.  And now you want to leave a comment, don’t you? I know you want to speak your mind. Go ahead. I might get paid for that too. That’s right, bitch. I just fucked you good. I spoke the truth and you already heard it and now you’ve just ensured that I got paid to do so. How fucked is that?

Wham, bam, thank you Ma’am! I’m out!

No Bra for Breast Cancer Awareness or Any Day... Who Cares!

Social media and basically the whole internet is in an uproar today over whether supporting breast cancer awareness by going without a bra is a good thing or not. Come on people, really? Are we seriously still living in the dark ages?

First of all, anything that helps draw attention to a worthy cause is a good thing, provided it doesn't hurt others. I can't for the life of me see how a woman deciding not to wear a bra hurts another person.

While some may take things too far, those people would do so, no matter the subject matter. The cause is not the problem. It's people and either their own indiscretions or their own bigotry toward women being themselves (who says we always have to wear a bra - the things are wildly uncomfortable and also unhealthy and unnatural).

Look, the whole internet is talking about this issue, correct? That's a whole lot of breast cancer awareness right there -- and that's a really good thing. So many people (and not just women) die or have serious life-altering issues due to breast cancer. The more we can get people thinking about this, the better, regardless of how we do it.

Let's stop nitpicking at the little things, like whether someone has on a bra or not, and start helping each other. If you're so upset, throw that energy into supporting breast cancer research or another worthy cause.

The less time we spend on fighting, the more time we have to actually do something that matters.

Wear a bra or don't. Who cares?

What we should care about is helping others. Are you doing your part?
