De Leon, on the other hand, basically had a lost season with arm troubles. When he was on the mound, he wasn’t very good. However, none of the injuries were particularly serious. Still, De Leon’s stock is pretty low right now. His strikeout stuff is still there, but his control was definitely hampered by injuries. However, a healthy DeLeon is a valuable arm that the Rays will no doubt be happy to have on the staff, in the bullpen or the rotation.
Understandably, De Leon rookie cards aren’t hot commodities right now. But picking up this Bowman rookie card for a handful of credits on Listia was well worth the risk that he may never become a productive MLB pitcher. Still, I think the Rays have a guy who has plenty of upside. There’s really nothing to lose here, for them or for my card collection.
